Description: The group, led by Berta Ibáñez (PhD), is made up of eight investigators from complementary disciplines: biostatistics, epidemiology and public health, and evaluation and management of health services. They conduct studies on incidence and aetiology of prevalent diseases, patient safety, pharmacoepidemiology, variation in medical practice and disease mapping. Presently, one of their main research interests is to conduct population-based follow-up studies on chronic patients, using integrated clinical administrative datasets and electronic medical records, including those of Primary Care. They take part in different national and international initiatives, such as MEDEA (geographic, sociodemographic and environmental inequalities in health,, Atlas VPM (Variation in Medical Practice-National Health System,, Kronikgune ( and  EPIC-Hearth  (
